7.5t HGVs

In the 2021 survey of Salt Lane / Markwick Lane 96 vehicles per day were either OGV1 or OGV 2.
85% were rat running, so not delivering on the route and therefore not exempt from ignoring advisory “Unsuitable for HGVs” signs.

In 2024 the large exclusion zone was applied, installing red “no HGVs” signs, banning >7.5t vehicles (see >7.5t definition below).

2025: A sample of typical OGV traffic on Salt Lane apparently ignoring the red restriction signs.

In 2025 HGVs continue to use the Western Corridor. Many exceed the speed limit. The 7.5t exclusion zone appears to be unsuccessful, primarily because the zone is so large that many HGVs can claim exemption even if they have travelled 10 miles within the zone if their destination is within the 35 sq mile zone.
